MCG Holds Celebration of Peace, Commemoration of Kamikaze AnniversaryOctober 26, 2018 2:18 am / News
CLARK, MABALACAT CITY – The Mabalacat City Government, staged a simple yet meaningful celebration of peace in commemoration of the World War II including the Kamikaze Phenomenon in the city, earlier today Oct. 25, 2018, at the Goddess of Peace Shrine, Lily Hill, Clark Freeport Zone, Mabalacat City, Pampanga.
Mayor Crisostomo Garbo welcomed the attendees in the city, who included the MCG Department Heads, PNP & AFP Personnel and Japanese Nationals – families of the first 8 Kamikaze Pilots who died during the WWII. He as well cited the importance of such occasion as it brings together two nations to celebrate peace and learnings from the past.
City Vice Mayor Christian Halili also attended the event and expressed his delight to witness an occasion that promotes peace and patriotism.
Bishop Ekan Ikeguchi, Ph. D, Shojoshiin and Saifukuji Temples, graced the celebration and gave an inspirational message centered on how wars served as the foundation of peace. He also commemorated the sacrifice of the Kamikaze soldiers and pilots whom he witnessed and even encountered as a child.
Ikeguchi, 80, as well thanked the local govt. and Mayor Garbo for giving such importance to the occasion and for promoting peace in the city. He as well offered a prayer for World Peace and Kamikaze Memorial. This was followed by the offering of prayers, flowers, and lighting of incense by the Japanese guests to the statue of the Goddess of Peace.
